Dans la banlieue de Santiago, entre urbanisme et ruralité, Alejandra une jeune mère de 23 ans, vit avec son fils Nicolas âgé de sept ans, dans la maison qui appartenait à l'arrière-grand-mère paternelle de l'enfant. Au moment du décès de la vieille femme, qui prenait tout à sa charge, une vie difficile commence. Braulio, 50 ans, le père de l'ex-compagnon d'Alejandra envisage de vendre la maison. Alors, inexpérimentée et sans toit, la jeune mère va de cohabitation en cohabitation avant de se résoudre à confier son enfant à Braulio, qui accepte à contrecoeur.
